About
Paolo Coari
Born in Rome in 1939 and graduated in nuclear physics, since student began to sail and to race from 1959 with the Lanzerota , prototype with surprisingly modern lines of 1950, owned by his father Luigi .
After participating in almost a thousand races in the Tyrrhenian, Adriatic and the Aegean sea, and having filled his house with trophies won with Asteria I, Asteria II and Primadonna , to him can be applied the words of Carlo Sciarrelli: "Who get wet with sea water, never dries".
In his sport, he has gone through a period of great change in the world of sailing, from the time when in the the equipment of a racing yacht could not miss the floating anchor, the sails were in dacron and navigation instruments were quite imprecise (compass , radio beacons and estimated course recorded every hour on the nautical map), to the present times when you may know instantly your nautical position. He has held the position of Chairman of the Ciorcolo della Vela di Rome in the years 1993-1996 and 1999-2004.
Among his sailing teachers, he is proud to remind Admiral Agostino Straulino ( under whose guidance he raced on board of Kerkyra , Gabriella and Paxos ), which introduced the competitive spirit of the Olympic classes in the world the offshore yachts.
